Quakers Fall in Consolation Game at Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ind. — The Earlham College men’s basketball team finished 2007 on Saturday afternoon with an 82-65 loss to Baldwin-Wallace College in the consolation game of the Goaltenders-Bankers Classic at Franklin College.
Earlham fell behind early 9-2 as the Quakers missed junior Tristian Gregory (Evansville, IN/Harrison), who is the team’s leading scorer at 21.4 PPG. Gregory injured an ankle in Friday’s loss to Franklin.
The Yellow Jackets (4-6) built a 40-22 advantage before leading 48-32 at intermission. In the second half, Baldwin-Wallace led by 23 points with 15:29 remaining before the Quakers closed the gap to the final margin.
Senior Nick Welsh (Muncie, IN/Wes-Del) led the Quakers with 15 points, while sophomore Justin Carter (Indianapolis, IN/Northwest) and first-year Mark Yost (Lenox, MA/Lee) tossed in 14 points each.
Sophomore Malick Keita (Bamako, Mali/Lycee Francais Liberte) added eight points. Sophomore Tarrell Berry (Indianapolis, IN/Northwest) contributed seven points and led the Quakers with 11 rebounds.
Welsh was named to the all-tournament team after scoring 30 points with eight rebounds and five assists in the two contests.
The Quakers (2-8) begin the 2008 portion of their schedule on Friday, Jan. 4. Earlham entertains Hiram College on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest at 8 p.m.
