Quakers
fall to Anderson University
September 17, 2005
ANDERSON, Ind. —
One week after lighting up the scoreboard, the Earlham College football team
dropped a non-conference contest to Anderson University 48-7 on Saturday. “We
battled,” Earlham coach Gerry Keesling said.
Senior quarterback Justin
Rummell (Ingalls, IN/Pendleton
Heights), who missed the entire week of practice with a foot injury,
managed to take the field. “Justin Rummell gave
everything he had with an injured foot, but couldn’t overcome it,” Keesling
said. “(Junior) James Jewell did a good job in relief as he was thrown
into a difficult situation.”
Rummell completed eight of 13 passes
for 57 yards with one interception, while Jewell (Gary, IN/Roosevelt)
was eight of 17 for 96 yards.
The Quakers fell behind early as Anderson
got a field goal in the first quarter. In the second period, the
Ravens added a score on a 61-yard
fumble return
and two more touchdowns late in the half to lead 21-0 at intermission. “The
defense stepped it up against a good Anderson squad, especially in
the first half,” Keesling said.
In the second half, the Ravens
increased their lead to 28-0 before Jewell had a 9-yard run with
8:17 remaining in the third quarter for
the Quakers
lone touchdown.
Anderson running back Denny Kimmel ran
for 283 yards and three scores. Earlham sophomore running back
Manny Myers (Fairmount, IN/Madison-Grant) was held to 33 yards rushing.
Myers was one of eight players to catch
passes for the Quakers with three
receptions for 36 yards. Sophomore Joe White (Richmond, IN/Richmond)
led Earlham with four catches for 58 yards. On the other side of
the ball, Michael Thompson (Riverview, FL/East Bay) led the Quakers
with 16 tackles.
Earlham (1-2) opens North Coast Athletic
Conference play next week as the Quakers visit Wabash College on
Saturday. The game is scheduled
for
a 2
p.m. kickoff due to the Little Giants homecoming celebration. Box
