RICHMOND, Ind. — Earlham College junior quarterback Randy Kerns was honored Sunday night as the North Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Quakers to a 26-23 overtime victory over Anderson University on Saturday, Sept. 15.
Kerns (West Manchester, OH/National Trail) tossed a 10-yard touchdown pass to first-year Bryant Foreman (Mechanicsburg, OH/Northeastern) for the game-winning score in the extra session.
At the end of regulation, Kerns led a 13-play, 55-yard drive that culminated in a 6-yard scoring pass to senior Manny Myers (Fairmount, IN/Madison-Grant) that enabled the Quakers to tie the contest with 33 seconds remaining in the fourth period. “The offense didn’t capitalize on some opportunities in the first half, but that last drive was impressive,” Earlham Head Coach Gerry Keesling said on Saturday.
For the game, Kerns completed 18-of-36 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns.
The victory was the first overtime win for the Quakers in three games since the overtime rules were created by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the mid-1990s.
After a bye next week, Earlham (1-2) begins its NCAC schedule at Wabash College on Sept. 29. The contest begins at 2 p.m.
