Quakers Face Ranked NCAC Squad

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Four straight scores by Wabash College in the second quarter on Saturday made the difference as the Earlham College football team opened North Coast Athletic Conference play with a 54-20 loss to the No. 18 Little Giants.
Earlham was leading 7-6 after a 9-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Randy Kerns (West Manchester, OH/National Trail) to first-year Kyle Ripperger (Richmond, IN/Richmond) with 13:48 remaining in the second period. Wabash then scored four touchdowns including one on a blocked punt to lead 33-7 by intermission.
In the third quarter, the Quakers scored on their first possession to make it 33-13 as senior Terrel Brown (Richmond, IN/Richmond) capped an 11-play, 70-yard drive with an 11-yard run with 9:27 left.
Unfortunately for the Quakers, Wabash scored near the end of the quarter to make it 40-13.
Brown added another touchdown in the fourth period for Earlham’s final tally of the contest to make it 40-20 before the Little Giants added a pair of touchdowns in the last quarter.
Kerns was 20-of-34 on passing attempts for 202 yards and one touchdown. Ripperger led the Quakers with five receptions for 58 yards and the one score.
Senior Joe White (Richmond, IN/Richmond) added four grabs for 56 yards, while first-year Bryant Foreman (Mechanicsburg, OH/Northeastern) also had four catches for 53 yards.
Defensively, the Quakers forced three turnovers. Senior Eric Sturgeon (Logansport, IN/Logansport) recovered a fumble, while Brown and junior Tilmon Clark (Winchester, IN/Winchester) each had interceptions.
Sophomore Adam LaFollette (Riverview, FL/Riverview) led the Quakers with six tackles.
The Quakers return home to Darrell Beane Stadium next Saturday to face Wittenberg University. The NCAC game begins at 1 p.m. Box score.
