Quakers fall in home opener

RICHMOND, Ind. — Earlham’s comeback attempt
fell short on Saturday as DePauw University defeated the Quakers
5-3 on Matlack Field.
The Quakers trailed 4-1 after the first half.
Leland Gyr (Benzonia, MI Leelanau School) scored Earlham’s
goal in at 44:03.
In the second half, Victor Anciano (San Antonio-Altos,
Venezuela/Armand Hammer) scored twice to make it 4-3. His first
goal came at 75:42 on an assist by Jacob
O’Brien (Logansport, IN/Logansport). The second score came
at 76:29 with an assist from Behar Xharra (Gjakove, Kosovo/Rabin
County).
DePauw out shot Earlham 16-13 and junior goalie
Jon O’Neil (West Lafayette, IN/West Lafayette) had six
saves for the Quakers.
Earlham (0-3) is back on Matlack Field
Sunday against Rose-Hulman with a 3 p.m. start.
