Quakers drop match to ranked team at home

September 24, 2005
RICHMOND, Ind. —
An upset bid by the Earlham College men's soccer team vanished quickly on Saturday as the Quakers fell to North Coast Athletic Conference foe Ohio Wesleyan University 3-1 on Matlack Field.

After grabbing an early 1-0 advantage against the fifth-ranked Bishops, the Quakers surrendered a goal just before the first half ended. Ohio Wesleyan (9-0, 1-0) added two more goals within the first three minutes of the second half to take command of the contest.

Sophomore Jacob O'Brien (Logansport, IN/Logansport) scored Earlham's goal at 13:08 to put the Quakers ahead. Earlham junior goalkeeper Jon O'Neil (West Lafayette, IN/West Lafayette), who saw 12 shots on the day, had nine saves.

The Quakers (1-7, 0-1) are at Franklin College on Wednesday. The non-conference match is at 4 p.m. Box score
