Quakers Open Season With Victory

RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College men's soccer team opened its season Friday with a 1-0 victory over Principia College on Matlack Field in the first round of the Raven-Quaker Classic. “It was a typical early season game,” Earlham Head Coach Roy Messer said. “It was far from beautiful, but winning is what you set out to do.”
Sophomore Ben Solganik (Dayton, OH/Centerville) scored at 75:27 in the second half to give the Quakers the victory. Junior Nhlanhla Maduna (Ezulwini, Swaziland/Li Po Chun) was credited with an assist on the play.
Senior goalkeeper Jon O'Neil (West Lafayette, IN/West Lafayette) had three saves as he recorded the fifth shoutout of his career. Principia out shot the Quakers 6-3.
Earlham (1-0) entertains Thomas More on Sept. 2 at 3 p.m. Box Score.
