First Half Goals Lead to Victory

RICHMOND, Ind. — Two goals in the opening period was all of the offense the Earlham men’s soccer team would need Wednesday afternoon as the Quakers defeated Franklin College 2-0 on Matlack Field.
First-year Mamary Diarra (Harare, Zimbabwe/International) scored to give the Quakers a 1-0 lead at 9:16 with junior Nhlanhla Maduna (Ezulwini, Swaziland/Li Po Chun) assisting on the play. Maduna added the second score of the afternoon at 34:15 with his third goal of the season.
Senior goalkeeper Jon O’Neil (West Lafayette, IN/West Lafayette) recorded three saves as he posted his third shutout of the season. Earlham had a 16-8 edge in shots, while Franklin led 4-2 in corner kicks.
Earlham (5-4) returns to action Saturday at Hiram College. The North Coast Athletic Conference match begins at 2 p.m. Box Score.
