March 4, 2006

RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College men’s tennis team swept all six singles matches on Saturday as the Quakers defeated Miami-Hamilton 7-0.

The Quakers are now 2-0 this spring. “We’ve had a good start,” Earlham coach Justin Carrier said. “Our confidence is growing as we prepare for the rest of the season, but we still need some work in doubles.”

Junior Scott Miller (Greensburg, IN/Greensburg), senior Nate Henderson (Hyde Park, MA/Concord), junior Peter DiLalla (Cleveland Heights, OH/Cleveland Heights), first-year Shiro Fukuzawa (Nagano, Japan), senior David Peake (Fredericksburg, TX/St. Stephen Episcopal) and sophomore Sergey Grechukhin (Nizny Novgorod, Russia/United World College) all posted straight set victories in singles.

Miller and Henderson won at No. 1 doubles, while DiLalla and Fukuzawa earned a win at No. 2. Miami-Hamilton won at No. 3 doubles.

Earlham returns to action Wednesday at home against Mount St. Joseph. The non-conference contest begins at 3:30 p.m. Scoresheet.
