Quakers
Stay Unbeaten After Four Matches
For Immediate Release:
March 11, 2006
RICHMOND,
Ind. — Rain may have forced the Earlham College
men’s tennis team inside Saturday, but that didn’t
slow down the undefeated Quakers.
Earlham beat Capital University 6-1 on the Trueblood
Fieldhouse indoor courts in the Athletics and Wellness Center for
the Quakers
fourth straight victory. “This a great win for our program,” Earlham
coach Justin Carrier said. “We have not defeated Capital during
my time here as a coach or a player, so this was an important match.”
The Quakers (4-0) won the opening point with
a pair of wins in doubles. Junior Scott Miller (Greensburg, IN/Greensburg)
and senior Nate Henderson
(Hyde Park, MA/Concord) were victorious at No. 1. Senior Andy Nelson
(Mantoloking, NJ/St. Mark’s School) and junior Peter DiLalla
(Cleveland Heights, OH/Cleveland Heights) combined for their fourth
win of the season at No. 2. The No. 3 match was not played because
only two wins are needed to take the doubles point
In singles action, Miller, Nelson, Henderson and DiLalla won at
the first four positions. Senior David Peake (Fredericksburg, TX/St.
Stephen Episcopal) won at No. 6. First-year Shiro Fukuzawa (Nagano,
Japan) fell behind early at No. 5, but battled back only to eventually
drop his match 8-5.
The Quakers finish their stretch of five consecutive home matches
on Tuesday against Cedarville University. The non-conference contest
begins at 3 p.m. Scoresheet.
