Fall in Match Against Cedarville
For Immediate Release:
March 14, 2006
RICHMOND,
Ind. — The Earlham College men’s tennis
team ended a run of five straight home matches on Tuesday as
the Quakers dropped a 5-2 decision to Cedarville University.
A traditional force in the National Association of Intercollegiate
Athletics (NAIA) Cedarville started the contest by taking all three
doubles matches on the Trueblood Fieldhouse indoor courts in the
Athletics and Wellness Center.
Over the past two seasons, the Yellow Jackets
(1-3) have 37 wins. “The
Cedarville men’s team was our first real test of the season,” Earlham
coach Justin Carrier said. “Despite the fact that we went down,
I know that we will use this experience to our advantage in our upcoming
matches.”
There were several close matches in singles and Earlham had two
victories in six contests. After losing his opening set, senior Nate
Henderson (Hyde Park, MA/Concord) posted a comeback victory at No.
3. Junior Peter DiLalla (Cleveland Heights, OH/Cleveland Heights)
picked up a win at No. 4 in a tiebreaker.
The Quakers (4-1) are at Wabash College on Saturday and Sunday for
the Kerry Seward Tournament. The event gets underway at 9 a.m. each
day. The next dual match for Earlham is at Denison University on
March 27. Scoresheet.
