Finishes Second in No. 2 Singles
at
Wabash

CRAWFORDSVILLE,
Ind. — Earlham College senior men’s tennis
player Andy Nelson posted the highest finish for the Quakers
on Sunday in the Kerry Seward Invitational at Wabash College.
Nelson (Mantoloking, NJ/St. Mark’s School)
was defeated 6-0, 6-2 by Renato Costa of Vincennes in the championship
match of No.
2 singles, which was his first loss in the two-day event.
Despite losses on Sunday, junior Scott Miller (Greensburg,
IN/Greensburg) and first-year Shiro Fukuzawa (Nagano, Japan) finished
fifth. The
pair won opening round matches on Saturday. Miller played at No.
1, while Fukuzawa competed at No. 4.
Junior Peter DiLalla (Cleveland Heights, OH/Cleveland Heights) followed
up a pair of losses on Saturday with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Blake Burke
of Anderson to finish seventh in No. 3 singles.
In doubles, Nelson and DiLalla were sixth at No. 2 for the Quakers,
which was the best placement in that competition.
Earlham was eighth in the tournament with Vincennes and Oberlin
sharing the title.
The Quakers (5-1) return to action at Denison University on Monday,
March 27. The match gets underway at 4 p.m. Scoresheet.
