For Immediate Release:
April 15, 2006
RICHMOND, Ind. — Three
Earlham College seniors played their final home match on Saturday
afternoon as the
Quakers defeated North
Coast Athletic Conference foe Wabash College 4-3.
The Quakers started off with doubles point and
then won three singles contests to earn the victory. “This is a huge win for us,” Earlham
coach Justin Carrier said. “We played well at every position
and had to fight for every point. We came up big at crucial moments.”
Junior Scott Miller (Greensburg, IN/Greensburg)
and senior Nate Henderson (Hyde Park, MA/Concord) won at No. 1
doubles. Senior Andy Nelson
(Mantoloking, NJ/St. Mark’s School) and junior Peter DiLalla
(Cleveland Heights, OH/Cleveland Heights) teamed for a victory at
No. 2 doubles.
Nelson (No. 2), Henderson (No. 3) and DiLalla (No. 4) all posted
straight set victories in singles.
Senior David Peake (Fredericksburg, TX/St. Stephen
Episcopal) was also on the court for the last time. “Our seniors have done
a great job this season,” Carrier said.
The Wabash match was to be the second of the day, but wet conditions
forced the postponement of the morning contest against Ohio Wesleyan.
That match is now scheduled for April 22 at Denison University. Also
that day, the Quakers play Oberlin College at 10 a.m. in Granville,
Ohio. Earlham and Ohio Wesleyan will play later that afternoon.
Earlham (7-3, 1-1) returns to action Wednesday at Ohio Dominican.
The match gets underway at 4 p.m. Scoresheet.
