COLUMBUS, Ohio — Three victories
in singles sealed a third straight win for the Earlham College men’s
tennis team on Wednesday.
The Quakers (8-3) won two of the three doubles
contests to start the match on their way to a 4-3 win over Ohio
Dominican University
(10-8). “This was a great win for us,” Earlham coach
Justin Carrier said. “It’s nice to take the close matches.”
Earlham has won four of its last five contests by a score of 4-3
or 5-2.
Junior Scott Miller (Greensburg, IN/Greensburg)
and senior Nate Henderson (Hyde Park, MA/Concord) posted a 9-7
win at No. 1 doubles, while
senior Andy Nelson (Mantoloking, NJ/St. Mark’s School) and
junior Peter DiLalla (Cleveland Heights, OH/Cleveland Heights) teamed
for an 8-4 victory at No. 2.
In singles play, Henderson won at No. 3 and
DiLalla was victorious at No. 4. A tiebreaker at No. 5 proved to
be pivotal as first-year
Shiro Fukuzawa (Nagano, Japan) posted a victory. “Shiro came
up big,” Carrier said. “He has really started to find
his game.”
Earlham faces North Coast Athletic Conference foes Oberlin College
and Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday. Both matches will be played
at Denison University with the Oberlin contest starting at 10 a.m.
and the Ohio Wesleyan battle following in the afternoon. Scoresheet.
