Quakers Compete in NCAC Outdoor Championships;
Yane Honored for Performance

DELAWARE, Ohio — Senior Walker Yane was named North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Middle Distance/Distance Runner of the Year on Friday after winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase to give the Earlham College men’s track team a second event title in the NCAC Outdoor Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University.

Yane (Oldenburg, IN/St. Xavier, OH) ran his second National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) provisional qualifying time of the season in the steeplechase with a 9:15.49, which is also an Earlham record. He also had a fourth-place finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:35.84.

First-year Chris Shaw (Anderson, IN/ Pendleton Heights) picked up Earlham’s other championship on Thursday with a NCAA provisional qualifying distance in the discus with a throw of 158’1”.

Yane and Shaw were the only Quakers to finish in the top three of an event and earn all-conference honors.

Also on Friday, first-year Bo Braun (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) was seventh in the 400 meters on Friday with a time of 50.72 seconds with junior Mwaura Wambiga (Nairobu, Kenya/Li Po Chun) finishing seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 42’11½”. Junior Dan Mahle (Boulder, CO/Shinning Mountain Waldorf) was eighth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:48.74.

Senior Vince Milholland (Decatur, IN/Bellmont) finished eighth in two events on Thursday. He had a toss of 131’5” in the discus and a distance of 43’10¾” in the shot put.

The Quakers were eighth of 10 teams in the two-day event, while Allegheny College won the overall championship.
