Shaw Sets School Record in Discus

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Earlham College sophomore Chris Shaw broke a 40-year old school record on Friday afternoon to highlight the performance of the men’s track team during the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships at IUPUI.
Shaw (Anderson, IN/Pendleton Heights) had a throw of 167’1” to finish in third place in the discus. The toss established an Earlham standard breaking Mike Brown’s mark of 160’5” set in 1968. “It was a fantastic moment for the track program,” Earlham Head Coach Nick Johnson said. “I was very proud of him.”
First-year Chad Wertman (Holland, IN/Southridge) was the other Earlham competitor to score on Friday. Wertman finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 46’11¾.”
The meet resumes on Saturday at IUPUI. The field events begin at noon with the men’s running events starting at 12:45 p.m.— EC —
