Quakers
fall in NCAC game at Denison

GRANVILLE,
Ohio — The Earlham College
women's basketball team fell to Denison University 84-51
on Wednesday night in a North Coast Athletic Conference
in Livingston Gymnasium.
Earlham (4-14,
3-6) led by as many as five at the 14:01 mark in the first
half after a 3-pointer by first-year Janee Covington
(Indianapolis, IN/Arlington), but the advantage wouldn't last.
The Big Red (15-4, 7-3) would quickly turn
the score around to lead 18-13 with 9:37 remaining in the
first
half.
"We
will watch film to identify areas we can improve in" Earlham
coach Liana Coutts said. "We are a young team and bound
to show inconsistencies."
Denison
eventually stretched the lead to 43-29 by
halftime. The Quakers would not be able to
get any closer as the Big Red led by as many as
34 with 2:29 remaining in
the game.
Although the Quakers
won the rebounding battle 38-36, the turnovers were too much
to overcome with 26 miscues. Denison had 14 turnovers in winning
its ninth
in a row at home. Denison
finished the game with 31 points off of turnovers and 46 bench
points. Earlham only had 10 points off turnovers and 16 bench
points.
Covington led the
Quakers with 11 points and three assists. Sophomore
Whitney McBurrows (Lansing, MI/J.W. Sexton) contributed six
points, six rebounds, and four steals.
Sophomore Chelsea Caywood
(Richmond, IN/Richmond) and first-year Tasha Merrill (Cedar
Grove, IN/Franklin County) scored seven points each, while
combining for 12 rebounds.
Earlham will be in action again
Saturday at Wooster.
The NCAC contest begins at 3 p.m.
