Quakers play NCAC foe Kenyon College

RICHMOND,
Ind. — A tough start proved to be difficult
to overcome Saturday afternoon as the women’s basketball
team faced Kenyon College on Schuckman Court in the Athletics
and Wellness
Center.
The Ladies
defeated the Quakers 68-50 in the North Coast Athletic Conference
contest. “We have to have everybody to come
ready to play,” Earlham coach Liana Coutts said. “We
try to talk about execution and some things that are within
our control. It comes down to experience we have to continue
strive to have certain mentality. Our game plan is to put 40
minutes together.”
First-year
Janee’ Covington (Indianapolis,
IN/Arlington) led the Quakers with 16 points and three steals.
She also pulled
down five rebounds. Sophomore Whitney McBurrows (Lansing, MI/J.
W. Sexton) tossed in 11 points.
Kenyon led 6-0 with 18:13 left in the opening half. The Quakers
closed the gap to 10-7 after first-year Tasha Merrill (Cedar
Grove, IN/Franklin County) nailed a 3-pointer with 16:01 on
the clock. The Ladies responded and eventually led 39-20 at
intermission. In the second half, Kenyon (17-6, 9-5) put the
game away.
Merrill finished with seven points and seven rebounds. Sophomore
Chelsea Caywood (Richmond, IN/Richmond) grabbed five rebounds.
Earlham (4-20, 3-12) is idle until
next Saturday when the Quakers entertain Oberlin College. The
NCAC contest and regular season finale starts
at 1 p.m. Box score.
