Quakers play tight contest at Mount
St. Joseph

Ohio — A late rally by The College of Mount
St. Joseph proved to be the difference Saturday afternoon
as the Lions defeated
the Earlham College women’s basketball team 71-60
at the Harrington Center.
Junior Guin Summerton (Williams, IN/Shoals) lead the
way for the Quakers with 16 points and four assists as
they had four players reach double figures. Sophomore
Chelsea Caywood (Richmond, IN/Richmond) finished with
12 points and seven rebounds, while first-year Tasha
Merrill (Cedar Grove, IN/Franklin County) added 11 points
and eight rebounds. First-year LeShea Orr (Dayton, OH/Jefferson)
had 10 points and eight rebounds.
Earlham led most of the contest and built its biggest
advantage of 32-24 with 57 seconds left in the first
half. In the final minute, however, Mount St. Joseph
ended with a 4-0 run to close the gap to 32-38 at intermission.
The Quakers held their lead into the second half until
the Lions tied the game at 52-52 at the 7:46 mark. The
game was tied two more times before Mount St. Joseph
worked its way to a 60-56 advantage with 5:32 remaining
in the game.
Orr tied the game for the last time at 60-60 with a
basket at the 3:47 mark. On their next possession, the
Lions (2-2) took the lead for good at 62-60 as they scored
the final 11 points of the contest to earn the victory.
Earlham (0-4) returns
to action Wednesday as the Quakers entertain Franklin
College
in their home opener on Schuckman
Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center. The non-conference
contest begins at 6 p.m. and is part of a doubleheader.
