Quakers battle Franklin College
in home opener

RICHMOND,
Ind. — The
Earlham College women’s
basketball team opened the home portion of its schedule
Wednesday evening with a 71-60 loss to Franklin College
on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Junior Guin Summerton (Williams,
IN/Shoals) led the Quakers in scoring for the fifth
game in a row as she
had 12 points. Sophomore Chelsea Caywood (Richmond, IN/Richmond),
first-year Tasha Merrill (Cedar Grove, IN/Franklin County)
and first-year Janee’ Covington
(Indianapolis, IN/Arlington) tossed in eight points each.
First-year LeShea Orr (Dayton, OH/Jefferson) led the
Quakers with 11 rebounds, while Caywood grabbed 10 boards.
Franklin, the pre-season
favorite in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference,
worked its way to a double-digit
advantage in the first half and led 40-23 at intermission
to take control of the contest.
The Quakers (0-5) begin
North Coast Athletic Conference play at 3 p.m. Saturday
on Schuckman Court against the
College of Wooster. Box
