Quakers open conference schedule
against Wooster

RICHMOND,
Ind. — The Earlham College women’s
basketball team played North Coast Athletic Conference
opener on Saturday afternoon as the Quakers were defeated
by The College of Wooster 70-59 on Schuckman Court in the
Athletics and Wellness Center.
Sophomore Whitney McBurrows (Lansing,
MI/J.W. Sexton) and first-year Tasha Merrill (Cedar
Grove, IN/Franklin
County) led Earlham with 14 points each. First-year Janee’ Covington
(Indianapolis, IN/Arlington) finished with 13 points
off the bench. Merrill led the Quakers with 10 rebounds.
Jumping out to a 6-0 advantage, the Quakers took control
of the contest early in the first half as McBurrows scored
all three baskets. The Scots fought back to tie the game
at 8-8, but the Quakers went back in front 13-8 with
10:06 remaining in the opening period.
Wooster (3-2, 1-0) eventually tied the contest 16-16
at the 6:40 mark and took the lead for good eight seconds
later on a pair of free throws. The Scots led 31-27 at
halftime. In the second half, Wooster widened its lead
to 17 points and the Quakers closed the gap to six on
two occasions.
Earlham (0-6, 0-1)
is back on the court on Wednesday with a home contest
against Denison University. The NCAC
