GAMBIER,
Ohio — The
Earlham College women’s
basketball team faced a difficult challenge on Saturday
as the Quakers fell to Kenyon College 63-36 in a North
Coast Athletic Conference contest.
Kenyon (9-0, 2-0) took command early in
the contest. “You
have to give Kenyon a lot of credit,” Earlham coach Liana
Coutts said. “We got out of our game and we lost our
confidence.”
The Quakers trailed 24-9 at halftime. “They’re
the best defensive team in our conference,” Coutts said. “They’re
very physical and very strong.”
First-year LeShea Orr (Dayton, OH/Jefferson)
led the Quakers with 16 points and 11 rebounds. “She was real competitive
for the entire game,” Coutts said.
First-year Tasha Merrill (Cedar Grove,
IN/Franklin County) added nine points. “She did real well, but she just needs
to get more touches,” Coutts said.
Earlham (1-7, 1-2) is back
on the court Friday in the Rose-Hulman Tournament. The Quakers
play the host Engineers at 8 p.m. Box
score.
