SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Earlham College women’s basketball team couldn’t overcome a 14-6 run late in first half by Wittenberg University on Wednesday night as the Quakers lost 70-40 in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest.
Earlham trailed 21-15 after junior Lisa Vanderkolk (Bluffton, IN/Bluffton) hit a pair of free throws before the Tigers broke open the tight first half in the final 6:43 of the stanza to lead 35-21 at intermission.
In the second half, Wittenberg pulled away as the Quakers could get no closer than 12 points.
First-year Starr Gary (Indianapolis, IN/Northwest) led the Quakers 18 points, while first-year Shontavia Davis (Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central) tossed in 11 points. Vanderkolk and Davis each had a team-high seven rebounds and Gary pulled down six.
Earlham (2-13, 1-5) entertains Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday. The NCAC contest starts at 1 p.m. Box Score.
