Slow Start Hurts the Quakers in NCAC Game

RICHMOND, Ind. — A slow start hurt the Earlham College women’s basketball team on Saturday as the Quakers lost 69-48 to North Coast Athletic Conference foe Ohio Wesleyan University on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.

The Quakers fell behind 16-4 with 15:35 left in the opening half. Earlham battled back to close the cap to 25-19 after first-year Starr Gary (Indianapolis, IN/ Northwest) scored with 5:30 remaining the period.

Ohio Wesleyan (8-7, 3-3) finished the first half with an 11-4 run to lead 36-23 at intermission. In the second half, added to their advantage an put the game away.

First-year Shontavia Davis (Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central) led the Quakers with 17 points, while pulling down six rebounds. Gary tossed in 13 points to go with a game-high 10 rebounds.

Sophomore Tasha Merrill (Cedar Grove, IN/Franklin County) added nine points and four rebounds.

Earlham (2-14, 1-6) plays Oberlin College next Saturday on Community Day. The NCAC game begins at 1 p.m. Box Score.
