RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women’s basketball had four players in double figures Saturday, but it wasn’t enough as the Quakers fell to the College of Wooster 71-59 in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
First-year Starr Gary (Indianapolis, IN/Northwest) led the Quakers with 21 points, while junior Whitney McBurrows (Lansing, MI/J.W. Sexton) and sophomore Tasha Merrill (Cedar Grove, IN/Franklin County) tossed in 13 points each.
First-year Shontavia Davis (Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central) added 11 points and eight rebounds.
Earlham fell behind 9-2 early in the contest, but the Quakers tied the game 9-9 after two free throws by Davis with 14:06 left.
The game was tied 21-21 with 6:26 left before Earlham scored the next seven points to lead 28-21 at 3:35. The Quakers would maintain that advantage to lead 34-28 at intermission.
In the second half, the game was tight as the Quakers led 41-40 with 15:07 left. Woooster (10-8, 5-4) scored the next 11 points to hold a 51-41 lead with 10:42 remaining. After the run, Earlham couldn’t get any 64-57 at the 1:34 mark as the Scots picked up the win.
Earlham (3-16, 2-8) plays at Ohio Wesleyan University on Tuesday. The NCAC game starts at 7:30 p.m. Box Score.
