GAMBIER, Ohio — The Earlham College women’s basketball team dropped a 47-39 decision to Kenyon College on Saturday in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest.
First-year Starr Gary (Indianapolis, IN/Northwest) recorded her second double-double of the season leading the Quakers with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Sophomore Tasha Merrill (Cedar Grove, IN/Franklin County) added nine points, while first-year Shontavia Davis (Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central) tossed in eight points. Junior Lisa Vanderkolk (Bluffton, IN/Bluffton) had six points and nine rebounds. Junior Whitney McBurrows (Lansing, MI/J.W. Sexton) also had six points.
The Quakers worked their way to a 12-11 advantage with 10:05 remaining in the first half after McBurrows scored. The Ladies (12-11, 9-5) ended the period with a 15-3 run to lead 26-15 at intermission.
In the second half, Earlham fought back into the contest and got to within 39-37 when Merrill drilled a 3-pointer at the 5:46 mark. From that point, Kenyon finished the contest with an 8-2 run to put the game away.
Earlham (4-20, 3-12) is at Oberlin College for the regular season finale next Saturday. The NCAC game starts at 1 p.m.
