RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women’s basketball team played its first home game of the season Saturday afternoon as the Quakers fell 77-62 to Mount St. Joseph on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Sophomore Tracy Hill (Copley, OH/ Cuyahoga Valley Christian) led the Quakers with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
There were three other players in double figures with junior Samantha Lurie (Lansing, MI/ J.W.Sexton) tossing in 13 points, while sophomore Tasha Merrill (Cedar Grove, IN/ Franklin County) and first-year Starr Gary (Indianapolis, IN/ Northwest) scored 10 points each.
Earlham had an early 4-2 advantage after a Lurie basket with 16:07 remaining in the first half, but the Lions (3-1) would respond to build a 39-22 lead at intermission.
In the second half, the Quakers rallied cutting the lead and closing the gap to 64-54 with 3:43 on the clock after another basket by Lurie. “We have to do that from the beginning instead of digging ourselves a hole and then fight back,” Earlham head Coach Liana Coutts said. “We have to focus on the little things and putting a whole game together.”
The Quakers (0-4) return to action next Saturday at the College of Wooster. The North Coast Athletic Conference contest starts at 1 p.m. Box Score.
