Quakers Fall in NCAC Road Contest

GAMBIER, Ohio — The Earlham College women’s basketball team dropped a 71-46 decision to Kenyon College on Saturday.
Sophomore Shontavia Davis (Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central) led the Quakers with 14 points, while senior Whitney McBurrows (Lansing, MI/J.W. Sexton) tossed in 13 points with a team-high six rebounds.
Senior Samantha Lurie (Lansing, MI/J.W. Sexton) contributed seven points.
McBurrows hit the first basket of the North Coast Athletic Conference game for the Quakers before Kenyon scored the next seven points to get an early 7-2 advantage.
Davis nailed a 3-pointer to make it 7-5 at the 16:27 mark, but the Ladies went on an 8-0 run to lead 15-5 with 13:50 remaining in the opening half.
Later in the period, McBurrows got the Quakers closer at 19-14 with a pair of free throws with 8:29 left. From that point, Kenyon (8-6, 5-0) finished the half with a 22-7 run to lead 41-21 at intermission.
In the second half, the Quakers got as close as 16 points twice with the last time coming when Davis scored to make it 46-30 with 15:05 remaining.
The Quakers (2-12, 1-5) entertain Ohio Wesleyan University next Saturday. The NCAC game on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center is at 2 p.m. Box score.
