Early Deficit Hurts Quakers

RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women’s basketball team fell behind early Saturday afternoon as Ohio Wesleyan University defeated the Quakers 66-47 in a North Coast Athletic Conference game on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Ohio Wesleyan (10-5, 5-2) scored the first eight points of the contest over a four-minute stretch to establish an early advantage. From that point, the Quakers closed the gap to five points before Ohio Wesleyan built a 35-19 lead by intermission.
In the second half, Ohio Wesleyan pulled away after the Quakers cut the deficit to 15 points twice with the last coming at 41-26 with 14:27 left to play.
Senior Samantha Lurie (Lansing, MI/J.W. Sexton) led the Quakers with 12 points, while grabbing eight rebounds. Sophomore Shontavia Davis (Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central) added 11 points and topped the Quakers with nine rebounds.
Sophomore Katy Buda (Mishawaka, IN/Mishawaka) scored seven points with juniors Tracy Hill (Copley, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) and Tasha Merrill (Cedar Grove, IN/Franklin County) tossing in six points each.
Earlham (2-13, 1-6) returns to action at home on Wednesday against Wittenberg University. The NCAC game starts at 6 p.m. Box score.
