Quakers Battle Big Red on Schuckman Court

RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women’s basketball team dropped a North Coast Athletic Conference contest to Denison University 79-60 Tuesday night on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.

Junior Tasha Merrill (Cedar Grove, IN/Franklin County) led the Quakers with 23 points with senior Whitney McBurrows (Lansing, MI/J.W. Sexton) tossing in 14 points with nine rebounds.

Senior Samantha Lurie (Lansing, MI/J.W. Sexton) had nine points, eight rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Jayana Sims (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis) added eight points and seven rebounds with three assists.

Junior Tracy Hill (Copley, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) led the Quakers with 10 rebounds and scored six points.

Earlham began the night with several leads with five points being the largest margin. The Quakers led 13-8 when Merrill hit a 3-pointer with 13:26 left in the first half and 15-10 after a Lurie basket at the 11:01 mark.

Denison (12-8, 8-3) tied the game at 15-15 at 9:48. Hill gave the Quakers their final lead at 17-15 with 8:40 on the clock. The Big Red ended the half with an 18-9 run to lead 33-26 at intermission.

Early in the second half, the Quakers cut the deficit to four points twice with the last time coming at 35-31 when Hill scored at 17:05. Denison pulled away from that point to post the victory.

The Quakers (2-18, 1-10) visit Hiram College on Friday. The NCAC contest begins at 6 p.m. Earlham plays at Allegheny on Saturday with the game starting at 2 p.m. There will not be a Teamline broadcast for either game. Box score.
