MEADVILLE, Pa. — The Earlham College women’s basketball team had a pair of players in double figures on Saturday as the Quakers fell 75-60 to Allegheny College in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest.

Senior Samantha Lurie (Lansing, MI/J.W. Sexton) led the Quakers with 18 points, six assists and four steals, while junior Tasha Merrill (Cedar Grove, IN/Franklin County) added 17 points and seven rebounds.

Lurie and junior Tracy Hill (Copley, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) topped Earlham with eight rebounds each. Hill and sophomore Jayana Sims (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis) tossed in nine points apiece.

After a brief lead in the first minute of the game, the Quakers trailed the rest of the way. Allegheny (8-13, 5-7) scored 10 straight points for a 10-2 advantage with 16:18 left in the opening period. The Gators eventually led 42-23 by halftime.

In the second half, the Quakers cut the deficit to 63-51 when Merrill scored with 6:10 left to play. Unfortunately for Earlham that was as close as the Quakers would get.

Earlham (3-19, 2-11) returns to action next Saturday at home against Kenyon College. The NCAC game on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center begins at 1 p.m. Box score.
