Quakers Face Bluffton University on the Road

BLUFFTON, Ohio — The Earlham College women’s basketball team played its third road game of the season on Tuesday as the Quakers fell to Bluffton University 75-49.
Junior Tasha Merrill (Cedar Grove, IN/Franklin County) led the Quakers with 12 points with senior Whitney McBurrows (Lansing, MI/J.W. Sexton) tossing in 10 points.
Sophomore Shontavia Davis (Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central) had nine points with eight rebounds. Junior Tracy Hill (Copley, OH/ Cuyahoga Valley Christian) led Earlham with 10 rebounds, while contributing eight points.
Senior Samantha Lurie (Lansing, MI/J.W. Sexton) added seven points and seven rebounds.
Merrill gave the Quakers an early lead with the first basket of the game on a 3-pointer with 19:35 on the clock. A few moments later, Merrill tied the contest at 5-5 with a score at 18:37.
The Beavers led briefly before the Quakers went back in front 12-8 on a trey by McBurrows and a basket by Davis with 15:26 remaining in the opening period.
Bluffton responded and took the lead for good 13-12 at the 11:31 mark and built a 31-17 advantage by intermission.
In the second half, Earlham pulled to within 37-26 after Merrill scored with 15:32 left, but the Quakers couldn’t get any closer the rest of the way.
Earlham (0-3) continues its travels on Saturday as the Quakers visit the College of Mount St. Joseph. The non-conference game starts at 5 p.m. Box score.
