Quakers Play Fourth Straight Road Game

CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Earlham College women’s basketball team had four players score in double figures on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough as the Quakers dropped an 89-69 decision at the College of Mount St. Joseph.

Sophomore Shontavia Davis (Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central) led the Quakers with 17 points, while classmate Katy Buda (Mishawaka, IN/Mishawaka) added a career-high 14 points.

Senior Samantha Lurie (Lansing, MI/J.W. Sexton) tossed in 12 points with senior Whitney McBurrows (Lansing, MI/J.W. Sexton) finishing with 11 points.

Davis and Lurie led the Quakers with eight rebounds each, while McBurrows and junior Tracy Hill (Copley, OH/ Cuyahoga Valley Christian) ended the contest with six rebounds apiece.

The Quakers had an early in the first half and built a 23-16 advantage after Davis scored with 7:35 remaining.

Unfortunately for the Quakers the Lions tied the game 23-23 by the 6:38 mark of the opening period. The Lions (1-3) scored the next four points to complete an 11-0 run before the Quakers bounced back to tie the game at 27-27 when McBurrows hit a jumper with 3:21 left in the half.

Mount St. Joseph finished the stanza with an 8-4 to lead 35-31 at intermission. The Lions added to their advantage with an 11-4 run in the first four minutes of the second half to lead 46-35. After that the Quakers could get no closer than 61-54 when Buda nailed a 3-pointer with 9:16 remaining in the game.

Earlham (0-4) entertains St. Mary-of-the-Woods College on Wednesday on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center. The non-conference contest begins at 7 p.m. Box score.
