2007 Season Preview
For Immediate Release:
Aug. 31, 2007
RICHMOND, Ind. — Several of the top runners return from the team that placed eighth in the North Coast Athletic Conference in 2006 for Pat Thomas, who begins his 21st season as Earlham’s head coach.
If the Quakers are to move up the pack in the NCAC, two-time Earlham most outstanding runner, junior Michelle Crane (Mansfield, OH/St. Peter's) must return to the form of her first season, one in which she earned NCAC Newcomer of the Year honors with an eighth-place finish during the conference meet in 2005. Junior Emma Bohmann (Minneapolis, MN/South) and senior Anna Chatfield (Doylestown, OH/Chippewa) look to continue their progress and provide Earlham strength up front.
“We have the potential to have a much stronger squad,” Thomas said. “We anticipate that Crane will run well again and we expect to see those runners who have been improving to continue to get better. We also may have some newcomers to have an impact on our top five.”
In addition to Bohmann and Chatfield supporting Crane, Thomas has several returning runners who are capable of scoring. Senior track specialist, Sara Bohall (Columbus, IN/East), hopes to make progress after contributing in her first year of cross country last fall. Seniors Megan Carter (Lewis, IN/South Vigo) and Rebecca Tolmach (Atlanta, GA/Grady) are coming back after a year of off-campus study. Sophomore Eirinn Cooper (Franklin, IN/International) is expected to be a factor after a strong track season last spring.
Among the first-years, Thomas looks for Caryn Wixom (St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) be a part of the lineup, while Rosalie De Lombaert (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) and Rachel Dranoff (Lexington, MA/Lexington) have the potential to make contributions as the season progresses.
Earlham starts the 2007 campaign in the Franklin Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 1
