Quakers start season in Kentucky
September
3, 2005
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Earlham College field hockey
squad opened
its season on Saturday with a 4-0 loss at Transylvania.
Despite the loss, Earlham coach
Jill Butcher was optimistic. “We
made a number of mistakes defensively,” she said. “But
if we continue to improve, we’ll be O.K. I saw a lot of promise
for such a young squad.”
Earlham
goalie Anna Benfield (Takoma Park, MD/Montgomery Blair) recorded
14 saves as Transylvania out shot the Quakers 17-11.
Earlham (0-1) returns to action on Sunday
with the second contest in Kentucky at Centre College.
