Penalty stroke results in only goal against
Quakers
September
14, 2005
DELAWARE, Ohio —
A goal on a penalty stroke early in the second half was the difference
Wednesday afternoon as the Earlham College field hockey squad dropped
a 1-0 decision to Ohio Wesleyan University.
“I thought we played better,” Earlham coach Jill Butcher said. “Our
defense stepped up and got the ball out of the circle.”
The
Bishops out shot the Quakers 11-4 in the North Coast Athletic
Conference contest and goalie Anna Benfield (Takoma Park, MD/Montgomery
Blair) had six saves. The penalty stroke was awarded
48 seconds into the second period because the Quakers had an
illegal stop of a shot inside the
circle.
Earlham (0-4, 0-2) entertains NCAC foe Oberlin College
in its home opener at 10 a.m. Saturday on Comstock Field. Box
