Seniors Play Final Home Match for Quakers

For Immediate Release
Oct. 17, 2006

RICHMOND, Ind. — Three seniors said farewell to Comstock Field Tuesday afternoon as the Earlham field hockey squad fell to DePauw University 6-1 in a non-conference contest.

Becca Jordan (Montpelier, VT/Montpelier), Lydia Hanson (Jefferson, MD/Sandy Springs Friends) and Sophia Salguero (Silver Spring, MD/John F. Kennedy) each played their final home match. “It’s always hard for me when seniors leave the program,” Earlham Head Coach Jill Butcher said. “These three were one of my first recruiting classes when I came back to Earlham. It’s pretty special to have them graduate, but it’s also sad because they each fill a different role and they will be missed.”

After DePauw scored it the first minute of the match, the Tigers added another goal to make it 2-0 at intermission.

DePauw led 4-0 when the Quakers scored their goal at 62:14. Jordan picked up her team-leading seventh score of the season with an assist from junior Liz Buehler (Hartland, WI/Arrowhead). The Tigers scored the final two goal of the contest in the last five minutes.

Sophomore goalkeeper Katherine McDonough (Louisville, KY/St. Francis) had 11 saves for the Quakers

Earlham (2-12) visits Kenyon College on Friday. The NCAC contest starts at 4:30 p.m.
