Quakers win non-conference match on Matlack Field
October
18, 2005
RICHMOND, Ind. —
Earlham College first-year Hillary Carter is continuing to chase women’s
soccer records.
Carter (Middletown,
OH/Lakota East) broke one mark and moved closer
to another Tuesday afternoon as the Quakers picked up their second
straight victory with a 3-0 win over Hanover
College on
Matlack Field.
With two first half goals, Carter reached
16 to break the season record of 14 established by Lacey Berns
and Shoshana Erickson in
1999, which Carter tied
in
last Saturday’s 5-0 victory over Hiram College. She now has 38 points,
which is one shy of the season record also set in 1999 by Berns.
The scoring
glory may have gone to Carter as the Quakers built a 2-0 advantage at intermission,
but there were contributions from everyone including sophomores
Hailee Carter (Middletown,
OH/Lakota East) and Jen Ruehl (Cincinnati,
OH/Seton). Hailee Carter assisted on her
sister’s
first goal and Ruehl picked up the assist on the second score off a corner
kick.
Ruehl scored Earlham’s final goal in the second half with an assist
from Hillary Carter.
The Quakers out shot Hanover 31-5 as
nine different players attempted to find the net. Senior goalkeeper
Kari Wilder-Romans (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) recorded
five saves to
post her
third shutout of the season and second in a row.
Earlham (8-6-1) returns
to action Saturday at Kenyon College. The North Coast Athletic
Conference match begins at 11 a.m. Box
