Quakers Tie in Season Opener

RICHMOND, Ind. — After playing through a pair of overtime sessions on Friday, the Earlham College women’s soccer team finished in a 1-1 season-opening tie with Capital University on Matlack Field.

The Quakers scored at 45:57 early in the second half on a goal by first-year Karman Duchon (Decatur, GA/Decatur). Sophomore Callie Thompson (Louisville, KY/Dupont Manual) was credited with an assist on the play.

Capital put its goal on the scoreboard at the 69:02 mark of regulation to send the game to extra periods.

The Crusaders led 23-17 in shots and had a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. First-year Megan Holthaus (Harrison, OH/McAuley) had 10 saves for the Quakers, while first-year JoBeth Buckley (Berkley, MI/Berkley) had three saves.

Earlham (0-0-1) entertains Spalding University on Saturday in the next round of the El Rodeo Raven/Quaker Classic at 1 p.m. Box Score.
