Earlham Blanks Spalding for First Victory of Season

RICHMOND, Ind. — First-year Karman Duchon scored three goals Saturday afternoon to lead the Earlham College women’s soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Spalding University on Matlack Field in the El Rodeo Raven/Quaker Classic.
Lauren Berry (Durham, NC/Carolina Friends) gave the Quakers an early 1-0 lead with an assist from Lauren Shade (North Vernon, IN/Jennings County). Duchson (Decatur, GA/Decatur) made it 2-0 with Berry being credited with the assist on a corner kick.
Midway through the second half, Duchon scored twice in 27 seconds to double the advantage. JoBeth Buckey (Berkley, MI/Berkley) assisted on the first goal. Late in the contest, the Quakers added another goal by Megan Holthaus (Harrison, OH/McAuley). Shade had the assist on the play.
Earlham out shot Spalding 27-4, while holding a 9-2 edge in corner kicks. Holthaus had a save in goal in the first half and Natasha Kroma had a pair of saves in the second half.
The Quakers (1-0-1) entertain Rose-Hulman next Saturday at 1 p.m. Box score.
