Quakers Set Records in Homecoming Win

RICHMOND, Ind. — Pair of records fell Saturday afternoon as the Earlham College women’s soccer team defeated Hiram College 6-3 in a North Coast Athletic Conference match on Matlack Field.
As Earlham celebrated Homecoming, the Quakers set new standard with their 12th victory of the season. The six goals established a new mark for the most in a season with 45. The old records of 11 wins and 40 goals were from 1999.
The Quakers (12-3-1, 4-2) are now in second place in the NCAC standings with the top four teams qualifying for post-season play. Wittenberg University (14-2-1, 5-0-1) is in first.
Junior Maddie Daskovsky (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township), sophomore Callie Thompson (Louisville, KY/Dupont Manual) and first-year Karman Duchon (Decatur, GA/Decatur) scored two goals each as the Quakers scored early in the match a built a 4-0 advantage.
Daskovsky got the Quakers on the scoreboard at 2:17 with an assist credited to Duchon. The duo combined on Earlham’s next score at 15:26 with Duchon finding the net with help from Daskovsky.
At 19:58, Daskovsky made it 3-0 with Thompson getting an assist. Thompson gave the Quakers a four goal lead with a score at 27:15 with Daskovsky assisting on the play.
Hiram scored its initial goal at 29:01, but Thompson made it 5-1 with another tally at 37:07 with Duchon getting her 11th assist of the season, which ties Lacey Berns' school record set in 1999. The Terriers added another score to cut the deficit to 5-2 at intermission.
Both teams added goals in the second period with Duchon scoring for the Quakers off a corner kick at 47:18.
First-year goalkeeper JoBeth Buckley (Berkley, MI/Berkley) had two saves for Earlham. The Quakers had a 21-10 edge in shots with a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Earlham entertains Denison University on Wednesday. The NCAC match starts at 4:30 p.m. Box score.
