Quakers Start
Season with a Victory

RICHMOND,
Ind. — The
Earlham College women’s tennis team opened its season Friday
night with an 8-1 win over Miami-Hamilton on the Trueblood Fieldhouse
courts inside the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Senior Sue Piotrzkowski (Indianapolis, IN/Scecina) and first-year
Birgit Kuba (Vienna, Austria) opened the match with a win at No.
1 doubles
In singles action, the Quakers won every match as sophomore Kate
Unver (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood), sophomore Liz Byrd (Richmond,
IN/Richmond), senior Emily Steele (Logansport, IN/Logansport),
Piotrzkowski and Lydia Hamilton (Bloomington, IN/North) all were
victorious.
The Quakers won by default at No. 3 doubles
and No. 6 singles. “It’s
always great to start the season with a victory,” Earlham
coach Justin Carrier said. “This will provide a boost for
the team’s confidence.”
Earlham (1-0) entertains Capital University
on Saturday, March 11. The non-conference match is scheduled
for 10:30 a.m.
