Quakers Win Second Straight

RICHMOND,
Ind. — The Earlham College women’s tennis
team posted an 8-1 victory over Capital University Saturday
on the Trueblood Fieldhouse courts inside the Athletics and
Wellness Center.
Earlham won two of the three matches to doubles
to begin the day as the Quakers won their second straight to
start the season. “Starting
the season with two wins is wonderful,” Earlham coach Justin
Carrier said. “We are playing with a lot of passion and it
showed with our performance.”
Sophomore Kate Unver (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and sophomore Liz
Byrd (Richmond, IN/Richmond) won at No. 1, while senior Sue Piotrzkowski
(Indianapolis, IN/Scecina) and first-year Birgit Kuba (Vienna,
Austria) earned a victory at No. 3.
The Quakers won all six matches in singles action. Unver, Byrd,
senior Emily Steele (Logansport, IN/Logansport), Kuba, Piotrzkowski
and Lydia Hamilton (Bloomington, IN/North) were victorious.
Carrier was particularly pleased with Kuba’s 9-7 win at
No. 4 singles. “Birgit was down 5-1,” he said. “She
did a great job of coming back.”
Earlham (2-0) plays on Monday at home against Cedarville University.
The non-conference match is scheduled for 3 p.m. Scoresheet.
