Quakers Finish Sixth in NCAC Tournament

GRANVILLE, Ohio — The Earlham College women’s tennis ended its season on Sunday with a sixth place finish in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament at Denison University.

Earlham began play in the morning with a 5-1 victory over Allegheny College before falling 5-4 in the afternoon to Wittenberg University battling for fifth place.

In the opener against Allegheny, the Quakers won all three doubles matches and later pulled out a pair of singles contests.

Playing the last matches of her career senior Jenn Silver (Champaign, IL/Urbana) teamed with first-year Rachel Hawkins (Midland, MI/Herbert Henry Dow) to beat Meggie Oravec and Jackie Conrad 8-0 at No. 1.

Juniors Kate Unver (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and Liz Byrd (Richmond, IN/Richmond) defeated Tamara Prairie and Molly Findley 8-4 at No. 2, while junior Claire Rivron (Bloomington, IN/South) and sophomore Avery Goldman (New Haven, CT/Hamden) won 8-5 over Yina Wyss and Shannon Crusse at No. 3.

In singles, Silver posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Conrad at No. 1 and Unver won by the same score over Findley at No. 4.

Against Wittenberg, the Quakers started off the contest with two victories in doubles. Silver and Hawkins won 8-3 over Caitlin Glandon and Susan Feuer at No. 1. Unver and Byrd combined to beat Amanda Williams and Jessica Corns 8-2 at No. 2.

Hawkins and Unver had Earlham’s other wins against Wittenberg. Hawkins beat Kaitlyn Tinney 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles with Unver winning 6-1, 6-3 over Feuer at No. 4 singles.
