Another Win Gives Quakers Four Straight

FT. WAYNE, Ind. — The Earlham College women’s tennis team remained undefeated on Saturday as the Quakers beat Indiana Tech 5-4 to win their fourth straight match.

Earlham got off to a 2-1 lead after the doubles round and picked up three more wins in singles. “We had just enough to squeak out a victory,” Earlham Head Coach Justin Carrier said. “I was proud of our effort.”

Sophomore Rachel Hawkins (Midland, MI/Herbert Henry Dow) and senior Claire Rivron (Bloomington, IN/South) beat Aide Martinez and Ashley Cooper 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Junior Avery Goldman (New Haven, CT/Hamden) and sophomore Megan Rahill (Indianapolis, IN/International) posted an 8-5 win over Kassie Barroquillo and Jennifer Williams at No. 3.

In singles action, senior Kate Unver (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Martinez at No. 2.

A pair of first-years won the other two singles contests. At No. 5, Miriam Holzman-Lipsitz (East Lansing, MI/East Lansing) won 6-1, 6-1 over Barriquillo. Nora Mineva (Pleven, Bulgaria/Lester B. Pearson) beat Williams 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6.

Earlham’s match against Aquinas College that was scheduled for Saturday was canceled.

The Quakers (4-0) entertain Ohio Wesleyan University on Thursday. The North Coast Athletic Conference match is at 4 p.m. Scoresheet.
