Indoor Season Starts at NCAC Relays

GRANVILLE, Ohio — The Earlham College women’s track team came away with one first-place finish in Saturday’s North Coast Athletic Conference Relays at Denison University.
Sophomore Jessica Kane (Milladore, WI/Auburndale), junior Tania Balan-Gaubert (Chicago, IL/Whitney M. Young), first-year Erin Witham (Arrowsic, ME/North Yarmouth Academy) and first-year Romana Sudova (Vrazne, Czech Republic/Palacky) ran a 1:53.64 to win the 800 relay. “It was a good meet for us and we’re looking forward to competing next week at Anderson,” Earlham Head Coach Nick Johnson said.
The next best performances for the Quakers were a pair of third place finishes. Witham, Kane, junior Brittany Smith (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL/Paideia, GA) and junior Sara Bohall (Westport, IN/Columbus East) grabbed third in the 1,600 relay with a 4:23.88, while Kane (14-7½) and Sudova (14-7) combined for third in the long jump relay.
First-year Laura Brown (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville), sophomore Emma Bohmann (Minneapolis, MN/South), junior Rebecca Tolmach (Atlanta, GA/Henry W. Grady) and first-year Erinn Cooper (Franklin, IN/International) finished fifth in the 3,200 relay with an 11:28.79.
Junior Emma Abernathy (Atlanta, GA/Lakeside) and sophomore Allison Blaetz (Palantine, IL/William Fremd) teamed to take sixth in the pole vault relay clearing 8-0 and 7-6.
In the shot put relay, junior Jessica Whitaker (Indianapolis, IN/Scecina) and first-year Kia Woods (Atlanta, GA/Henry W. Grady) were eighth with throws of 32-9¾ and 22-1.
Ohio Wesleyan won the event with the Quakers finishing seventh of nine teams.
Earlham participates at the Anderson Invitational next Saturday. The meet starts at 3 p.m.— EC —
