Quakers Post Three Firsts in NCAC Championships;
A Pair of Earlham Records Also Established

DELAWARE, Ohio — The Earlham College women’s track team picked up three event titles and established a pair of school records on Friday in the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Senior Sara Bohall (Westport, IN/Columbus East) won two individual championships, while the Quakers were victorious in the 400-meter relay.
Bohall won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.65 seconds before posting a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) provisional qualifying time in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:03.90.
Sophomore Jessica Kane (Milladore, WI/Auburndale), first-year Erin Witham (Arrowsic, ME/North Yarmouth Academy), junior Tania Balan-Gaubert (Chicago, IL/Whitney M. Young) and sophomore Starr Gary (Indianapolis, IN/Northwest) finished first in the 400-meter relay with an Earlham record time of 50.05 seconds.
Earlham’s other school mark came in the 1,600-meter relay as Kane, Witham, Balan-Gaubert and Bohall finished second with a time of 4:04.52.
Gary was second in the 100 meters and 200 meters with times of 12.64 seconds and 25.99 seconds, respectively.
Bohall and Gary were All-NCAC as individuals, while both relays squads also picked up the designation on Friday for finishing in the top three places in an event.
In the 400 meters, Witham was fifth with time of 1:01.75, while Kane was sixth at 1:02.10. Sophomore L.J. James (Greencastle, IN/Greencastle) was sixth in the hammer with a toss of 103’0”. Senior Lisa Vanderkolk was eighth in the javelin with a throw of 96’8”.
On Thursday, James earned all-conference honors with a third-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 36’6¾”. She was also eighth in the discus with a distance of 104’0”.
Sophomore Allison Blaetz (Palantine, IL/William Fremd) cleared 8’0” to finish seventh in the pole vault, while Kane was eighth in the long jump with a leap of 15’8¾”.
Overall, the Quakers were fifth with 75 points just behind the College of Wooster, which had 75½. Ohio Wesleyan won the two-day affair.
