RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women’s track squad opens the 2008 indoor season on Saturday in the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays in Granville, Ohio.

Earlham coach Nick Johnson enters his fifth season at the helm of the program. “We are excited to have some of our key performers back from last year”, Johnson said. “Sara Bohall is one the top sprinters in the conference.”

Johnson always looks forward to the first meet of the year. “I’m excited to start the season with the conference relays,” he said. “It’s nice to be able to evaluate our personnel early in the process of preparing our team for the NCAC Indoor Championships and the outdoor season.”

Saturday’s meet begins inside the Mitchell Recreation and Athletics Center on the Denison University campus at 2 p.m.

Senior Sara Bohall (Westport, IN/Columbus East) is returning for her final season after being named the Most Outstanding Performer last spring. During the outdoor season, Bohall was the NCAC champion in the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles. Indoors, Bohall was a part of the 800-meter and 1,600-meter relay teams that earned all-conference honors a year ago.

Junior Jessica Kane (Milladore, WI/Auburndale) and sophomore Erin Witham (Arrowsic, ME/North Yarmouth Academy) were teammates of Bohall on those relay squad and both earned a post-season team award last year.

Kane was selected as the Most Improved Performer, while Witham was named the Most Outstanding First-Year.

Seniors Rebecca Tolmach (Atlanta, GA/Henry W. Grady) and Brittany Smith (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL/Paideia, GA) along with sophomore Eirinn Cooper (Franklin, IN/International) return after scoring in the distance medley during the NCAC Indoor Championships.

Others expected to contribute are seniors Emma Abernathy (Atlanta, GA/Lakeside), Megan Carter (Lewis, IN/Terre Haute South Vigo), Anna Chatfield (Doylestown, OH/Chippewa) and Laura Vail (Lexington, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury), juniors Allison Blaetz (Palantine, IL/William Fremd), Michelle Crane (Mansfield, OH/St. Peter’s), Katherine Jordan (Middlebury, VT/Union), Molly Kistin (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque Academy), Laura Nitti (Portland, OR/Lincoln), Kathleen Parker (Stamford, CT/Northfield Mt. Herman) and Mary Rowley (Evanston, IL/North Shore Country Day).

Melissa Barnes (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Montego Bay), Emily Bohall (Columbus, IN/East), Rachel Dana (Columbus, IN/North), Ramona Hemmings (Cleveland, OH/Shaw), Alison McEmber (Newtown, CT/Newtown), Cristyn Wenn (Fairmount, IN/Madison-Grant) and Caryn Wixon (St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) are all first-years on the team.

After the NCAC Relays, the Quakers will participate in the Anderson Invitational (Feb. 9), the DePauw Classic (Feb. 16) and the NCAC Indoor Championships (Feb. 29-March 1) at Denison. The NCAA Div.
