DELAWARE, Ohio — Earlham College senior Sara Bohall made history on Friday.

Bohall (Westport, IN/Columbus East) was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Sprint/Hurdles Athlete of the Year after winning the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles during the NCAC Outdoor Track Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University.

With the win in the 400-meter hurdles, Bohall became the first Earlham athlete to win four straight conference titles in the same event. She also established a NCAC record in the race with a time of 1:02.64, which matches her school record set two weeks ago during the Earlham Invitational. The previous conference mark was 1:03.10 set by Kelly McNamara of Ohio Wesleyan in 1991. The time meets the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III National Championships at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on May 22-24.

“Sara had a tremendous meet,” Earlham Head Coach Nick Johnson said. “Watching her break the conference record in the 400-meter hurdles in very windy conditions shows us that she can run a lot faster.”

In her first race of the day, Bohall won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.40 seconds for her third title in the last four years in that event. Overall, she now has eight NCAC titles and 17 all-conference honors awarded for a top-three finishes.

Bohall anchored the 1,600-meter relay team behind junior Jessica Kane (Milladore, WI/Auburndale), first-year Alison McEmber (Newtown, CT/Newtown) and sophomore Erin Witham (Arrowsic, ME/North Yarmouth) as the Quakers finished fourth with a time of 4:09.83.

McEmber also scored for the Quakers in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.99 to finish fifth.

Earlham’s other points came from the 400-meter relay team. First-year Rachel Dana (Columbus, IN/North), Kane, Witham and McEmber posted a time of 53.86 to finish sixth.

Allegheny College won the meet with the Quakers finishing sixth of nine teams.
