Quakers Start Season With Two Wins

RICHMOND, Ind. — A pair of victories highlighted the first day of the Coca-Cola Quaker Classic for the Earlham volleyball squad.

The Quakers opened their season Friday with a 29-31, 30-25, 30-27, 34-32 win over Greenville College. Earlham finished the evening with a 30-19, 30-21, 30-17 victory over Olivet College. “It was the best team effort we’ve ever had,” said Earlham Head Coach Natalie Alred, who is in her third year with the Quakers. “They are quality wins.”

Junior Jessica Whitaker (Indianapolis, IN/Scecina) led the Quakers against Greenville with 22 kills, while junior Lisa Vanderkolk (Bluffton, IN/Bluffton) added 16. Junior Amanda Prewitt (Greenwood, IN/Greenwood) had 38 assists and senior Ashley Govro (Greensburg, IN/North Decatur) added 17. Whitaker finished with 18 digs, while junior Sara Prince (Dresden, OH/Tri-Valley) had six solo blocks.

Against Olivet, Whitaker and Vanderkolk led the way with 14 kills each. Prewitt had 25 assists, while Govro had 15. Vanderkolk added 20 digs and first-year Keeley McAnnis Entenman (Portland, OR/Grant) had three aces.

The 2-0 start is the best since 2000 when the Quakers began the season 4-0. Earlham entertains Frostburg State University Sept. 2 at 11 a.m. and then the Quakers tangle with Taylor University-Ft. Wayne in the finale at 3 p.m. Greenville Box Score. Olivet Box Score. Schedule.
